The Vashon Island Strawberry Festival is a community event that brings the entire island together every summer.  Each year the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce chooses a new island artist to create a new Strawberry Festival logo.

 

My goal for this project was to create a bold graphic that represented some of the long running history and folk lore around the festival.

Growing up on Vashon, I had always heard stories about the ever changing history of Strawberry Festival.  At one point so many Strawberry farms populated the island, that the festival was renamed to represent that.  As a kid I imagined giant strawberries being carted in and chopped with axes

My design celebrates that exaggeration that comes with tradition.
